Celebrate Oktoberfest with the authentic German mustard

by Sabine Schoenknecht on September 21, 2023

Prosit to all our mustard friends!

Oktoberfest is fast approaching and this is the perfect time to try this wonderful recipe with your friends and family.  We made it recently and its so delicious and gives you some "Lederhosen" feeling. The great thing about this recipe is that it is easy to make, expandable and if you have left over, easy to reheat.

For 4 Person:

  • 4 delicious Bratwurst or Oktoberfest wurst from your butcher
  • 1 kg new potatoes or regular potatoes (cut into smaller pieces)
  • 800 g sauerkraut (we make our own sauerkraut - when you buy sauerkraut, try fresh one which is not cooked. It is not so soft and its healthier)
  • 1 onion, cut into slices
  • Some beer for cooking
  • Oktoberfest Senf (Mustard)

You can cook the potatoes in saltwater until they are almost done. Peel off the skin and cut it in smaller pieces, or leave them whole when you have new potatoes)

In a frying pan, roast the sausages from both sides until brown and the internal temperature is above 75 degrees C. When ready, set aside.

In the same pan, roast the onion and then add the sauerkraut. Reduce the heat to preserve the health benefits from the sauerkraut. Add the potatoes and the beer and let it simmer. Season the sauerkraut with pepper (salt should be enough), cumin and nutmeg. Add the sausages, let them simmer a bit to reheat.

Serve with an cold beer and some dark bread.

We recommend our sweet Oktoberfest mustard, but if you like it spicy, The Maritimer is a great choice too.

Enjoy.

Your Mustard Lady
